Description and Uses: Obtained through steam distillation of the marjoram plant and flowers. It is yellow in color, gradually turning brown, and has a strongly herbal, somewhat sharp, sweet scent with woody and medicinal undertones. It is calming yet strengthening, and has antioxidant effects. It can act as a pain reliever and antispasmodic, helping with sore joints and muscles or menstrual discomfort. It is useful during colds as it can ease expectoration, while also reducing stress and tension and enhancing concentration. It has also been used for pulmonary ailments, mouth ulcers, headaches, and migraines.

Oils with which it can be blended: Lavender, chamomile, rosemary, tea tree, eucalyptus, Himalayan cedarwood, cypress, and bergamot.

Fun Facts: Marjoram is a low, bushy perennial that grows up to 60 cm tall. It features hairy stems, small dark green leaves, and small grayish-white to purple flowers. It is mostly cultivated as a spice and is a close relative of oregano. It is used in Provençal spice blends and heavily in Mediterranean cuisine. Its Latin name derives from the Greek word orosganos, meaning "joy of the mountains." In the past, it was given to newlyweds as an amulet for good luck.
