Indigo Powder, 100g

Description: Also known as True Indigo, this is a plant from the legume family and one of the oldest natural dye-producing plants in the world. The indigo shrub grows one to two meters tall, featuring oval green leaves and pink or purple flowers. The indigo powder is a light to medium green powder made from the ground dried leaves of the plant. It has a characteristic fresh pea scent. When mixed with warm water, it turns a rich dark green with a bluish top layer, eventually oxidizing into a deep navy blue with black undertones. These natural color changes in the mixture are expected.

Benefits: Indigo is primarily prized as a natural plant-based hair coloring ingredient. It allows for the creation of rich brown to very dark shades, with the final result depending on your natural hair color, prior henna use, the ratio of plant powders, and processing time. When combined with henna, it is exceptionally popular for achieving various natural brown and dark tones. Beyond coloring, it imparts a feeling of fullness, smoothness, and deep conditioning to the hair.

• Indigo mixed with henna: Yields medium to dark brown shades.

• Indigo applied to henna-treated hair: Delivers a luxurious black color.

• Pure indigo: Yields a deep blue shade.

Instructions for Use:

• Please read the enclosed box instructions carefully before using herbal powders.

• Preparation: Mix the indigo powder with lukewarm water to create a fresh paste. Let it sit for up to 15 minutes before application. If blending with henna, prepare the henna with warm water and let it sit for several hours first, then mix in the prepared indigo powder.

• Application: Wash and towel-dry your hair beforehand, or apply to clean, dry hair. Wear protective gloves and cover clothing and surfaces, as indigo heavily stains skin and fabrics. Divide hair into small sections and apply the paste evenly from roots to ends. Wrap hair in a plastic cap or foil to prevent the paste from drying out.

• Processing Time: Leave on for approximately 1 to 2 hours. Longer processing times can lead to more intense, darker results. When used alone, indigo works best on hair previously dyed with henna; applying pure indigo to light or blonde hair can result in bluish, greenish, or grayish tones.

• Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until the water runs almost completely clear. A small amount of conditioner can be used if needed to help remove remaining powder particles. Avoid shampooing immediately afterward; wait 24 to 48 hours for the color to fully develop and deepen.

Warnings:

• Do not bleach hair after using indigo, as it will turn the hair green.

• Indigo takes about two days after application and rinsing to fully oxidize and reveal its final shade. Avoid chemical shampoos or treatments during this time.

• Do not use near the eyes, mouth, or on broken/irritated skin. Perform a patch test and a strand test before full application.

• When preparing herbal powders and clays, avoid using metal utensils or bowls, as they can react with the metal material and alter the product chemically. It is best to use wooden or ceramic tools.
